Virgil Joseph Byrd, Sr., 64, husband of Margaret Ann “Jr.” Davis Byrd went home to be with the Lord and family on Thursday, March 22, 2018.
Virgil was born December 9, 1953 in Dillon County, a son of the late William Joseph “Buddy” Byrd and the late Grace Gilbert Byrd. He was a retired carpenter. Virgil loved the outdoors, especially working in his garden and yard. He was of the United Methodist faith.
Surviving Virgil in addition to his wife of 43 years and of the home are: his Children: Shannon Byrd (Eddie) Edwards of Mullins, Crystal Caulder of Galivants Ferry, Virgil Joseph (Emma) Byrd, Jr. of Dillon and Mark Anthony (Ashli) Byrd of Marion; his Grandchildren: Allyson Noto, Brooke Byrd, J.R. Caulder, Jessica Hamilton, Isaac Williams and Desirae “Desi” Edwards; his Sisters and Brothers: Gloria Gilbert, Florence Weatherford, Jerry Byrd, Ellen Godbold, Barry Byrd, Georgia Rouse and Dawn Peacock; Sister-in-Law: Debbie Harper; Special Friends: Patsy and Harold Taylor and Lana Allread; his puppy, Missy; and sevearal nieces and nephews.
Virgil was predeceased by a brother, Larry Yowl; a sister, Doris Cox; a niece, Kimberly Byrd; a nephew, Terry Cox; his mother-in-law, Margaurite Davis, a sister-in-law, Linda Carol Berry; and 2 brothers-in-law, Larry Davis and Jimmy Davis.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25, in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation was held Saturday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
