Matthew Webster Powell, 50, affectionately known as “Matt”, passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, February 15, 2018.
Born in Orlando, Florida, on March 20, 1967, he was the son of Robert Powell and was raised by his mother Addie Ray Hyatt and stepfather, Evans B. Hyatt. He was a graduate of Dillon High School, attended Refuge Holiness Church (Emmanuelville), and was a skilled sprinkler installer.
Matt enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, spending time with his children and family.
Funeral services were held 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Refuge Holiness Church in the Emmanuelville Community. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home.
He is survived by his sons, Blake (Ashley) Powell of Latta and Keith Barrentine of Conway; his father, Robert Powell of Florida; his mother and stepfather, Addie Ray Hyatt and Evans B. Hyatt of Dillon; brother, Bobby Powell of Rockledge, Fl; sisters, Missy (Chris) Powell of Dillon and Susie (Andy) Coward of Latta; step-sisters, Samantha (Scott Franklin) Hyatt of Kings Mountain, NC, Buffy Hyatt of Dillon, Regina Hyatt of San Antonio, TX, Tammy (Buddy) Cook of Latta, and Amanda (Danny) Oxendine of Little Rock, SC; grandchildren, Olivia Powell, Addison, Keaton, and Baylor Barrentine; also by nieces and nephews, Paige Coward, Jessie Squires, Beth Price, (twins) Robbie & Rethea Powell, Matracia Powell and Isaiah Clewis.
