Wildcats Win Over Aynor
The Dillon Wildcats returned home Friday, January 26, with a 60-44 win over Aynor in varsity boys basketball action played in Aynor.
The Wildcats held a 13-8 lead after the first period of play. By halftime Dillon’s lead was 9 points, 30-21. Aynor cut into Dillon’s lead and by the end of the third period of play, Dillon led 44-37.
The Dillon Wildcats shot 39% from the field and hit 59% of the free throws from the charity line.
Dillon grabbed 38 rebounds in the game and were guilty of 15 personal fouls in the game.
Jallian Williams and Damari Ladson led Dillon in scoring with 11 points each while Ty’Quan Porer connected for 9 points. Corrain Wright and Zy’Aire Charles each added 8 points in the win. Justin Green was perfect from the field connecting on two 2-point shots and one 3-point shot for a total of 7 points for the ‘Cats. Shamar McCollum added 4 points, and Daizon Alford garnered 2 points.

Latta Boys Fall To Carvers Bay
The Latta Vikings boys fell 67-43 to Carvers Bay on Tuesday, January 23, in varsity basketball action in a game played in Hemingway.
The Vikings found themselves down 16-10 after the first period of play. By halftime, Carvers Bay held a 10-point lead, 32-22. After 3 periods of play, Latta was down 49-35.
Darius McRae led the Vikings with 14 points followed by Nasir Sellers and Treron Miles each connected for 7 points while J. R. McClam and Moultrie each had 6 points. Shiheed Jones garnered 2 points, and Deonte Stanley hit a free throw for a point.
The Bears’ Tyrek Reed scored a game-high 19 points while Dijon Goss added 18 points, and Stephon Greene hit for 11 points in the win. Holmes and J. Reed each connected for 4 points, and Dickerson, Sumpter, Epps, and Rice each garnered 2 points for Carvers Bay.
The Latta Vikings faced Marion on Friday, January 26, at home.
The Vikings will will travel to Andrews today, Tuesday, January 30.

Latta Falls To Marion
The Latta Vikings lost a heart-breaker 60-57 to the Marion Swamp Foxes in overtime in varsity basketball action played in Latta on Friday, January 26.
The Vikings controlled the opening tip-off and quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Marion connected on a 3-point basket and 2 foul shots and were right back in game. Marion knotted the game at 9 points before Latta again built a small lead. After one period of play Latta was up 13-9 in the hard fought action.
Marion again tied the score at 13 and the action went up and down the court. At halftime, Latta was in the lead 22-16.
Latta only committed 2 fouls in the second quarter while Marion was guilty of 5 fouls.
Latta opened the third period of play with a 3-point basket by J. R. McClam and soon thereafter connected for another 3-point play to give Latta a 27-16 lead over Marion.
With 3:02 remaining in the third period of play Latta held a 16-point lead, 38-22.
The momentum began to swing in Marion’s direction and by the end of the third period of play Marion had cut the deficit in half. Latta led 40-32.
Latta was guilty of 6 fouls in the third period while Marion had committed only 4.
The Swamp Foxes continued to cut Latta’s lead.
At the end of regulation, the game was tied and forced to go to overtime where Marion got the upper hand and the victory.

Latta Ladies Suffer Loss
The Latta Lady Vikings suffered a 51-44 loss to the Marion Lady Swamp Foxes in varsity basketball action played in Latta on Friday, January 26.
The Marion Swamp Foxes held a 9-5 lead after the first period of play.
Latta held a 25-21 halftime lead and increased the lead to 9 points after 3 periods of play.
The Lady Vikings’ lead began to dwindle in the final period of play. However, with 4:51 remaining in the game, Latta held a slim 40-39 lead that the team would lose when Marion took control with 4:12 remaining in the game 43-41.
Moya McDuffie led Latta with a game-high 21 points followed by Rianna Green with 15. Arica Gandy added 6 points, and D. Green garnered 2 points.
Marion’s Keyla Britt hit connected for a team-high 16 points. Moody added 8, and Waiters connected for 7 points in the win. Barnes and Davis each hit for 6 points, and Lester added 4 points. Washington and Godbold each garnered 2 points. Latta is 5-3 in Region 7-2A.
Latta will travel to Andrews tonight, Tuesday, January 30, at 6:00 p.m.
