The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office has charged a 13-year-old juvenile from Latta with carrying a weapon on school grounds at Latta Middle School, according to Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
According to an incident report by School Resource Officer (SRO) Robert Porter, school personnel notified him on Monday, October 23, 2017 after learning that a student had taken a handgun to school on Friday, October 20, 2017.
After an investigation by school personnel and SRO Porter, the student was taken into custody and transported to DJJ in Columbia, Arnette said.
Superintendent John Kirby said the student has been recommended for expulsion under school board policy, and the school administration is seeking full legal consequences through the judicial system.
