On Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at approximately 1:16 a.m., the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a shooting at Sunflower Apartments located on McNeil Street in Dillon. According to an incident report by deputies Art Quick and Phillip Davis, a male victim was shot at Sunflower Apartments and taken to McLeod Medical Center in Dillon where he later died. The incident is under investigation by the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office and Dillon County Coroner’s Office. Coroner Donnie Grimsley identifies the man as Octavius Richardson, a 21-year-old black male, from Dillon. Grimsley said the body is being sent for autopsy.

Machale Olando Bethea, age 22, of Dillon has been arrested and charged with murder for the shooting death of Octavius Richardson that occurred at Sunflower Apartments on July 5, 2017.
Bethea turned himself to authorities on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, according to Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
