Latta School Board Minutes
June 13, 2017

The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the District Administrative Conference Room.
Trustees present were Kyle Berry, Ray George, Vanessa Harrison, Stuart Poston, Eleanor Powers, and JoAnn Williamson. Linda James was absent.
Chair Kyle Berry welcomed all present and Dr. John Kirby opened with prayer.
Principals introduced the school honor roll teachers of the year. Erika Roberts was recognized as teacher of the year for Latta High School. Deidra Jones was recognized as teacher of the year for Latta Elementary School. April Harrison was recognized as teacher of the year for Latta Middle School.
There being no corrections to the May 9, 2017 minutes and the current agenda, Chair Kyle Berry ruled that they stand approved.
DEPARTMENTAL
BUSINESS
Donna Taylor presented the status report for April 2017 on the General Fund budget.
A motion was made by Ray George and seconded by Eleanor Powers to approve the second reading of the 2017-2018 school year general operations budget as presented by Donna Taylor. Vote was unanimous.
George Liebenrood updated the Board on the summer instructional program and the summer camp program.
Dr. Kirby gave an update on summer projects.
Eleanor Powers shared the Ellis Performing Arts Center upcoming events with the Board.
Dr. John Kirby updated the Board on the recent ethic report from the Ethics Commission.
Information on the Chrome Books Project was given by Robert McIntyre.
Upon Dr. Kirby’s recommendation, a motion to accept the resignation of Patricia Donohue and to approve the hiring of Jaime Covington was made by Stuart Poston and seconded by Eleanor Powers. Vote was unanimous.
NEW BUSINESS:
Dr. John Kirby updated the Board on charter schools.
A discussion was held on possible grade reconfiguration.
There being no further business, Chair Kyle Berry adjourned the meeting at 9:05 p.m.
