GROVETOWN, GA – Mr. John H. “Red” Price entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 6, 2017. Red’s love for his family and friends was never doubted. Aside from family, he enjoyed spending his time at the motorcycle shop, gardening and most of all, golf; his love for the game lead to many leadership roles in the Augusta golf community and surrounding areas. He was admitted to the PGA class membership in March 1965 with a willingness to promote golf for juniors as well as adults. Red also served as Head Professional at Belle Meade Country Club in Thomson, Ga from July 1967 until September 1980. He then went on to serve as General Manager at Forest Hills Golf Club until his retirement in June 2004. With his mastership of the game and keen ability to fix just about anything, he accomplished the construction of a new club house as well as a new golf course that was designed by the Arnold Palmer Company.
During his years as a Golf Professional, Red contributed to the success of Augusta University’s Athletic Programs and represented them in many NCAA Tournaments where they ranked high for seven consecutive years.
Red was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Flora Price; wife, Alice Faye Price and brother, Carl Price.
Left to cherish his memories, his son; Olin (Cheryl) Price; step-children, Maria Recio, Tami Miller, Lynn Whitaker, Angela Blair; grandchildren, Shey Price, Garret Price, Morgyn Recio, Joshua Skipper, Gabby Fowler, Adam Richards, Courtney Standefer, several great grandchildren and his fur babies, Snuffy and Bella.
