The Worship Ministry of First Baptist Church in Dillon presented the musical drama Bow the Knee April 14-16. Associate Pastor for Worship Jon Whisnand directed the drama which involved over 90 members of the church.
Bow the Knee was written by songwriter Chris Machen and orchestrated by Richard Kingsmore. It is the story of the Roman Centurion, Anthony, as he develops a relationship with Jesus during the crucifixion and resurrection. Scenes included in the drama were the healings of Jesus, the adulteress woman, the ride into Jerusalem, Jesus and His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus appearing before Pontius Pilate, the crucifixion, and the resurrection.
The audience was entertained with beautiful music from the FBC Choir and Youth Choir and solos from John Bracey, Carl Smith, Jamie Arnette, Amanda Lucius, Dennis McDaniel, and Katharine Moody. The Youth Department’s Interpretive Dance team also performed.
Cast members of the drama included Jamie Arnette as Jesus, John Bracey as Anthony, Carl Smith as Eli, Jay Arnette as Benjamin, Michael Sapp as Marcus, Chris Huth as Pilate, Randy Carlson as Judas Iscariot, and Amanda Lucius as the adulteress woman.
Work on the musical drama began in February. Church members were involved in making the costumes and designing the scenery. The choirs, dance team, cast, and technicians practiced several times a week. The dedication of those involved in Bow the Knee was very evident in the three performances which brought the Easter story to life.
