Barbara Dickens Wilder, 85, died Saturday, March 25, 2017 at McLeod Medical Center-Dillon.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dillon First Baptist Church with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum directed by Cooper Funeral Home.
Visitation was 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Born October 27, 1931, in Mount Gilead, North Carolina the daughter of the late Alonzo N. Dickens and Betty H. Dickens. Mrs. Wilder was a faithful member of Dillon First Baptist Church for 54 years. She taught Sunday School and served on various committees throughout the years.
She was the director and head teacher of the kindergarten program for five years at Dillon First Baptist Church. She then continued her teaching career in Dillon County schools for 18 years years. She loved teaching kindergarten and adored her students. After her retirement, she would be greeted by her former students and thanked for being such a wonderful teacher. Even in her final stay in the hospital, she was lovingly cared for by a former student, Dr. Nicholas Wallace.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter. She spent her whole life caring for her family. She and Bob were married for 62 years.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Wilder of Dillon; daughters, Valerie W. Bozzelli (John) of Mt. Pleasant and Laurie W. Horne (William) of Easley; sister, Elizabeth
Woodland (Don) of Raleigh, NC; brother, Robert Dickens of Fayetteville; sister-in-law, Helen Dickens; grandchildren, Madison Horne Nordaune (Jason), Garland Horne Cox (Daniel), and Thomas Ray Arnette, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Brinley Nordaune, Ellis Nordaune, and Sullivan Cox.
Mrs. Wilder was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Dickens.
