Eastern Carolina Homelessness Organization, Inc. (ECHO), a non-profit organization that  provides housing for families and individuals that are homeless or at imminent risk of  homelessness, announced  that they have received a special grant for victims of Hurricane  Matthew.
The grant will provide temporary housing during the transition back into victim’s  original residence or into new permanent housing.
ECHO has been serving the 12 counties of upper-eastern South Carolina for 11 years and is  proud to be of service to the many residents affected by this disaster.
ECHO President/  Executive Director Joey Smoak said, “Thanks to the One SC Fund, Central Carolina Community  Foundation, and Governor Haley, ECHO will be able to help families and individuals that are  homeless because of the hurricane that do not qualify to receive assistance from federal  disaster programs. This grant will help fill the gaps in assistance already being provided with  temporary housing while getting these residents back into permanent housing.”
A portion of the grant will help impacted residents with temporary housing solutions during  their transition back into their original residence.
The other portion of the grant will serve  residents that have no home to go back to due to the hurricane with funding for temporary  shelter while working with one of ECHO’s 6 homeless assistance programs to identify and place  them into a permanent housing solution.
