Students at East Elementary School will enjoy a new sensory garden this school year.
The old Carolina Fence Garden outside the lunchroom will be converted into the new garden thanks to Candace Bohachic a second grade teacher. Candace applied for and received a grant from Tom’s of Maine through Donorschoose and The Glove and Trowel Garden Club matched the grant to help establish the garden. This garden will be a wonderful teaching tool for the students. They will study the life cycle of plants, vegetables and butterflies. They will get hands on experience by planting seeds in the classroom and then transplanting the young plants into the garden. Students will also start a compost bin and learn how to grow healthy plants.
The Glove and Trowel is a member of The National Garden Club, The South Atlantic Region of National Council, The Garden Club of South Carolina, Inc., and The Coastal District of The Garden Club of South Carolina.
