On Sunday, August 8, Kemper Baptist Church honored Dillon County Law Enforcement with a special evening service. It started with a delicious meal prepared by the church at 5:00 P.M. At 6:15 P.M. the community choir, comprised of people from all over the area sang several beautiful selections. Haywood Proctor, Chaplin of the Dillon County Law Enforcement was in charge of the service. The church was overflowing with about 30-40 law officers on hand. Mr. Proctor presented Sheriff Major Hulon, Dillon Chief Joe Rogers, Lake View Chief William Arrington, and Latta Chief Bobby Powers(who could not be present) with Resolutions honoring their service to the county and towns. Kenneth Alford, a Mullins policeman, sang two beautiful songs, A Little Good News and God Bless the USA. It was a very moving service with great singing by the community choir, with Becky Elvington at the piano. Brenda Campbell gave a short speech on neighborhood crime watch, where local citizens have come together to watch out for each other in their neighborhood. She said the crime rate has dropped drastically where this had been put in place.
I think it was a wonderful service not only enjoying the music and speakers, but having a chance to thank the officers face to face for helping to keep us safe here in Dillon County. We need to always support our law enforcement and to pray daily for their safety.
