The popular mentored youth fishing day at Jimmy Peacock’s pond in the Dothan Community was held Saturday, April 23.
Preparations began some time ago for this fifth annual event.
Youth, parents, friends, and mentors began arriving early in the morning.
The overcast sky did not dampen spirits as soon the sky opened up to the beautiful sunshine.
Last year more than 125 attended.
This event has grown over the past five years.
Participants not only fish but also enjoy fellowship and good food prepared on site by volunteers such as Leon Peacock, Allen Norris, Michael Sapp, Mickey Fore, and many more.
To make the event even better prizes are awarded for the most fish caught, the largest fish caught, etc.
This event is open to all who want to enjoy a day full of fun .
Maybe you can bait someone’s hook or simply teach someone to fish.

Years ago God instructed Jimmy Peacock to provide this for the area. He began to respond to God’s instructions.  He purchased the area from A. W. “Red” Bethea’s children.  Work began immediately on the site.
In 2007 Mr. Peacock was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
As one enters the location one see’s a 3,300-pound huge rock. The rock was purchased locally.
Mr. Peacock contacted a business lady from Florence who offered to come to Dillon and pick up the rock and glaze it and inscribe it as Jimmy Peacock had been instructed.  She informed him that this method would be less expensive than a bronze plaque. However, that was not to be as Peacock had received specific instructions from the Lord to have a bronze plaque.
It took Mr. Peacock three months to get the inscription correct.
At one point he originally had “standing” in front of this rock.  That was removed as the Lord informed him that someone may be in a wheelchair or with some other handicap.
The following is the inscription on the plaque. “Enjoy today if you are going hunting or fishing because you are not promised tomorrow.  This is all God’s creation and made possible by Him. This is no mistake that you are here reading this.  Take a minute to thank God for the many blessings He has given you.  God sent His only son, Jesus, to this earth who died a slow and painful death so you could spend eternity with Him.  Accept Him as your Lord and Savior by giving your heart to Him. God loves you. I’ll hope to see you in Heaven. Jimmy Peacock. Dedicated to the Lord Dec. 25, 2005. John 4:10 Jesus said, if you only knew what a wonderful gift God has for you, and who I am, you would ask me for some living water.”
It took Mr. Peacock and friends years to accomplish what the Lord instructed him to do.
