Two local teachers will be honored at a statewide event.
Dillon County School District Four will sponsor their District Teacher of the Year Kylie Lane’s appearance at the South Carolina Teacher of the Year Celebration in Columbia.
Lane, teaches fourth grade at Lake View Elementary School, will be honored at the event presented by the South Carolina Department of Education and South Carolina Future Minds, the non-profit that organizes private support for the state’s public schools.
The Latta Education Foundation will sponsor Dillon District Three’s Teacher of the Year Melanie Solter’s appearance at the South Carolina Teacher of the Year Celebration in Columbia.
Solter, who is a seventh grade social studies teacher at Latta Middle School , will be honored at the event presented by the South Carolina Department of Education and South Carolina Future Minds, the non-profit that organizes private support for the state’s public schools.
“It’s terrific when foundation’s show their support for great teachers in our public schools,” said Trip DuBard, executive director of SC Future Minds.  “Teachers like Ms. Solter make us grateful for the work of all SC educators.”
The SC Teacher of the Year Celebration is set for April 20 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The event brings together leaders of government, business and education to honor the best teachers from all 80-plus South Carolina school districts. At the evening’s end, one teacher will be named the 2016 SC Teacher of the Year, and receive use of a South Carolina-made BMW for the next year.
The evening begins with a public parade of teachers at 5:30 p.m. into the convention center located downtown at 1101 Lincoln Street. The public is invited to cheer on the state’s best teachers as a band leads them to the largest celebration of public education in South Carolina.
