The third annual Prepping For Prom was held at the City of Dillon Wellness Center on Saturday.
The purpose of the event is to provide prom dresses to girls in the community who need a little extra help to be able to attend to the prom.
A Visa Inc. nationwide survey said that the average cost for a high school student from a Southern family to attend prom is approximately $544. This does not include the new “promposal” fad which would add another $305 to this for a final cost of $859.
A large variety of donated dresses in all sizes and styles were available for the girls to choose from at this year’s event. Many more dresses have been added to the collection since last year giving the girls a wider selection. In addition to the dresses, make-up, jewelry, prom safety tips, and refreshments were available.
This year’s event has grown with 15 girls taking advantage of the opportunity. Founder C’Arra Lance hopes the event will grow even larger next year when they return. The event is usually held around the first of March.
If anyone has dresses that they would like to donate for next year’s event or would like more information, please e-mail Lance at preppingforprom@gmail.com, and she will arrange pick-up.
