The following is a statement from Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office on property crimes:
The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office responds to a number of different type calls each day.
When the sheriff’s office responds to a property crime (i.e. burglary, larceny etc.), it is the goal of the Sheriff’s Office to investigate each crime to the best our ability to try and determine who is responsible for committing the crime and recovering the property that was stolen from the victim.
The responding officer will gather as much information about the crime as possible from the victim and/or witnesses and follow up on any information at the time the crime is reported, depending on the type of crime an investigator may be assigned the case to follow up on the case.
On a day to day bases the crimes that have occurred are discussed and follow up investigations take place.
During the investigative phase of a crime if there is not enough information or evidence related to the crime to determine who is responsible then the case will be classified as unsolved at that time, but not closed.
The case will not be closed until all efforts are exhausted and no evidence has been obtained, just because you don’t have any information or evidence about a crime today does not mean that new information or evidence about the case may come at a later time.
Property crimes can be difficult to solve when there is not any evidence left behind by the suspect and no one witnessed the crime.
The public are the eyes and ears for their neighbor and law enforcement and we ask that you partner with us to help solve crimes that have occurred in your neighborhood and our county.
When we work together on crime issues only good things comes out of it.
The sheriff’s office would like to remind citizens to record all serial numbers and take pictures of their property so if you become a victim of a property crime it will help in identifying the property if it is recovered and keep the information you have recorded in a safe place.
If you see any suspicious activity related to any type crime or have any information that will help in the investigation please call the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office at 843-774-1432.
