The Dillon County Council held a called meeting on Wednesday morning to elect a chairman and vice-chairman.
The election of the chairman and the vice-chairman is the only vote taken by council by secret ballot.
After the meeting was called to order, the pledge recited, the invocation given, and the agenda approved, Council Clerk Jamie Sue Stephens distributed the ballots for chairman.
The councilmen marked their ballots, and she collected them. The tally was five votes for Councilman T.F. “Buzzy” Finklea, Jr. and two votes for Councilman Archie Scott. This is Finklea’s second year as chairman.
Finklea thanked his fellow councilmen for the vote of confidence and said he hoped everyone would work together this year. He said there was a lot coming to Dillon County, and they could get a lot done if they work together. He said he thinks people will be surprised at what is happening.
Then Stephens distributed the ballots for vice-chairman. After the councilmen marked their ballots, Stephens collected them. The tally was six votes for Councilman Bobby Moody and one vote for Councilman Randy Goings.
Moody said he appreciated everyone voting for him and if he had to stand in for the chairman he would do the best he can.
After Moody’s comments, the meeting was adjourned.
