Thomas LeGrande Carter, 85, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in Oakland United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation was 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
Born in Dillon County, September 5, 1924, he was the son of the late Hamer Carter and Annie Cox Carter. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II with the 126th Engineer HQ 10th Mountain Division, was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church, and retired from Dixiana Mill.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Carter of Hamer; sons, Hamer (Mary Knight) Carter of Sanford, NC, Tommy (Nancy) Carter of Sanford, NC; daughters, Diane (Wayne) Smith of Lake Wylie, SC and Lynn Carter of Savannah, GA; 4 grandchildren, Joseph Carter, Terri Carter of Hamer, Jill Weatherford of Summerville, SC, and Lee Carter of Sanford, NC; 2 great-grandchildren, Gracie Weatherford and Will Weatherford.
