The Dillon County 4-H Shooting Sports Club participated the Richland Creek 4-H Sporting Clays event on November 7, 2015 in Abbeville, SC at Rocky Knoll Sporting Clays Course.
The shoot was a fund raising shoot for Richland Creek 4-H and was sponsored in part by the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) which is headquartered in Edgefield, SC.
The Dillon County team consisted of 4 shooters, Walker Brumble, Eli Long, Jackson Elrod, and Mason Powers. The overall score for the team was the sum of the scores from the highest 3 shooters.
The team was competing against other teams on the 100 bird Course. Individual Scores for the team were Walker Brumble, 91, Jackson Elrod, 72- Eli Long, 68, Mason Powers 54.
This shoot was a preliminary event for the 2015/2016 organized youth shooting season. The 1st place team was Saluda 4-H with a score of 259 out of 300.
They were awarded $4,000 in endowment funds to their Midway USA Foundation account. 2nd place went to Strom Thurmond Career Technology Center School with a score of 249 and they were awarded $3000. Belton 4-H came in 3rd place and earned $1500. There score was 236. Dillon County 4-H and Mid Carolina 4-H tied for 4th with scores of 231 and each received $1000 for their endowment accounts.
All endowment funds were awarded by the NWTF.
The Dillon County 4-H is taking new members now for the 2016 season.
The first shoot of the season will be at Backwoods Quail Club in Hemingway, SC on December 5, 2015. Anyone who is interested in finding out more about the club may contact the Clemson Extension Office in Dillon or Contact Head Coach, Bill Aston.
At the Richland Creek 4-H shoot, coaches were allowed to participate. Coach Bill Aston won High Over All in the men’s division with a score of 91 which tied Dillon County team member, Walker Brumble. A 91 was high in the men’s but the youth shooters beat that score with a high of 94 and 2 shooters breaking 91.
