Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church’s Think Pink Committee treated their Breast Cancer survivors to a weekend retreat in North Myrtle Beach,.
The survivors were transported to the beach on the afternoon of Thursday, October 8th where they were temporary residents of a 6 bedroom house in Cherry Grove.
Friday began with a bountiful breakfast prepared by the committee. The survivors were then treated to a matinee showing of “War Room.”
The committee ended the day by firing up the grill to provide dinner for the survivors.
Saturday morning, the survivors visited a spa for massages and facials. After dinner, the committee presented the survivors with goodie bags, where stories were shared and lifelong friendships were sealed.
On Sunday morning the cars were loaded and the committee along with the survivors headed back to Clio, SC to enjoy morning worship at Ebenezer.
The purpose of the retreat was to show the survivors their church family would always be there to support them. However, the committee may have received the biggest reward through the survivors’ stories of perseverance and faith, a reminder to us all the importance of early detection.
Survivors include Sheila Bennett, Johnnie Mae Anderson, Teresa Lee, and Marilyn Johnson. The committee members are Sheila Bennett, Rena McClain, Wanda McRae, Wanda Murray, Barbara Powe, Shondra Powe, Towanda Wright, Robert D. Powe, Tim Sloan, Gary Wright, and James Young.
Erica Bethea-Sloan and Jeanette J. Young, chairpersons. First Lady Linda Powe, coordinator. Rev. Robert Powe, Pastor.
