On February 23, 2024, law enforcement with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, Latta Police Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol, and City of Dillon Police Department, as well as other agencies conducted safety checkpoints within the County of Dillon, This was done to ensure driver safety as well as safety of the public.
On this evening a Ford Escape was approaching the checkpoint and quickly turned around when the driver noticed what was going on up ahead. At this time the driver did make a swift move and try to turn around in order to avoid going through this checkpoint.
At this time, law enforcement officers did go behind the car and make a traffic stop on this vehicle. Upon stopping the vehicle and making contact there was the immediate smell of marijuana emitting from this vehicle. This did lead to a search of the car that led to the seizure of marijuana, as well as six firearms and multiple magazines of ammunition.
After further investigation three suspects were placed under arrest and transported to DCDC.
Dominic Antwan Walters, age 33, of Fairmont, NC, was arrested and charged with unlawful carry as well as simple possession of marijuana.
-Isaiah Amos Bowens, age 26, of Fairmont, NC, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Carry as well as simple possession of marijuana.
-Reginald Junior Murphy, age 21, of Fairmont, NC, was arrested and charged with unlawful carry as well as simple possession of marijuana.
Multiple officers and agencies assited in this case in which led to taking 6 unlawfully carried firearms off of the streets. These efforts will continue in order to provide safety for our citizens.
Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
