Ms. Bessie Irene Grimsley, 84, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, at Pruitt Health in Dillon, SC, after an extended illness.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 23, at 3:00 p.m. at Dillon Second Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Friday, prior to the service at the church.
Born in Dillon, S.C., November 27, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Roy Carter and Louise Ammons Carter.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Tommy Grimsley, Melinda Grimsley, and Michelle Grimsley and her great grandchildren, Harlee Lange, Hayden Lange, and Mason Repp of Michigan; her aunts, Frances Bailey and Annie Mae McDaniel and sisters-in-law, Barbara Carter and Margaret Carter of Dillon, S.C.; and many nieces and newphews.
Mrs. Grimsley was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Eddie Grimsley, Johnny Grimsley, and Michael Grimsley; brothers, Roy Lamar Carter, William (Bill) Carter, Jimmy Carter, and Bobby Carter; and sisters, Virginia Kernodle, Rachel Owens, and Christine Huggins.
Irene was a hard worker, starting with farming in her early years, later at Dillon Manufacturing, and then retiring from Craftex and becoming a caregiver for many before her illness. She loved her family and friends dearly and attending church at Dillon Second Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank Pruitt Health-Dillon and Pruitt Health-Hospice for the care given to Ms. Bessie Irene while she was there.
