Eunice Carmichael Stephens, 83, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday at Dillon First Baptist Church. Visitation will be 1:30-3:00 pm prior to the service at the church. A private entombment will be held for the family at Bermuda Church Cemetery.
Born in Mullins, SC April 13, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Ansel Carmichael and Mattie M. Hayes McCray. She was a 1962 graduate of Newberry College where she received her teaching degree. She was a member of Bermuda Baptist Church. Mrs. Stephens taught English to students at Lake View and Dillon High Schools for 34 years where she received numerous star teacher awards. She was a tremendous influence as both a teacher and a friend to her students over the years.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Tommy Stephens of Dillon; sons, Ray Stephens (Susan) of Dillon and Jeffrey Stephens (Krista) of Florence.; half sisters, Jackie (W.C) Berry of Latta and Cathy (Don) Martin of Honolulu, Hawaii; grand-children, Ryan Stephens, Curry Stephens, Katie Stephens and Allison Stephens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ansel Carmichael and Mattie H. McCray, step-father Jack McCray of Fork, and a brother, Marshall McCray.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dillon Camp of Gideons, P.O. Box 111, Dillon, SC 29536.
