Joel David Hopkins, Sr., 70, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at East Dillon Baptist Church with entombment in Evergreen Perpetual Care Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation was held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Home.
Born in Dillon County, SC, January 22, 1953, he was the son of the late Hazel Edward Hopkins and Idelle Steele Hopkins. He was a member of East Dillon Baptist Church, was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and retired from McLeod Medical Center after 26 years of service. Joel loved to grill, shoot pool, and help others.
Survivors include his daughter, Kim (Billy) Hyatt of Latta; son, David Hopkins of Latta; brothers, Jimmy Hopkins of North Myrtle Beach, and Russell Hopkins of Dillon; sister, Gaye Hopkins Graham (Gary) of Dillon; grandchildren, Tyler Hyatt, Kayla (Chandler) Morrell, Mason Powers, Jacob, Avery, and Daylan Hopkins; great-grandchildren, Delilah, Norah Belle, and Tinsley; furbaby, Daisy Mae.
