Michael Winston “Mickey” Moody, 78, of Dillon passed away at his residence Thursday, September 28, 2023. He was born February 12, 1945, in Marion, South Carolina, the son of the late Avery Tapley Moody and Mary Elma Moody.
In addition to his parents, Mickey was predeceased by an infant child and his brothers Avery T. Moody, Jr. and Larry B. Moody.
Mickey was a graduate of Dillon High School and the University of South Carolina. After finishing college, Mickey returned to Dillon where he worked at Heilig-Myers Manufacturing for 28 years. Mickey then enjoyed working at Horne Ford in Florence, South Carolina, delivering the Florence Morning News and The State Newspaper for 26 years and working as a salesman at Badcock Furniture. Mickey was a member of Dillon First Baptist Church and enjoyed serving his community as a baseball coach for the Dillon Kiwanis Club, a member of the Dillon Rescue Squad and was a proud member of the City of Dillon Fire Department with over 46 years of faithful service.
He is survived by his wife, Ginny Cottingham Moody of the home; children, Scott Moody (Melissa); Daniel Moody, Leigh Ann Moody (Jackie) and Austin Moody; Grandchildren, Brittani Alford (Brandon) Avery Moody, Davis Lockamy and Hart Lockamy all of Dillon; sisters, Joann Lee (Don) of LaGrange, Georgia and Trudy Moore of Lexington, South Carolina.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Dillon First Baptist Church with burial following at Evergreen Perpetual Care Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. The family received friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Irene and Bobbi with Agape Hospice for the compassion and wonderful care given to Mickey during his illness.
