The Dillon VFW made a stop at Veterans Village in Florence on the September 29th date that the VFW was founded in 1899. It’s been 124 years since a group of 13 Veterans from the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection joined together to form what would become the VFW. Originally called the American Veterans of Foreign Service, it would later become the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Known by VFW members as National Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Day, the Dillon VFW used this day to visit VFW members at one of the State Veterans Homes to thank Veterans for their service and for their years as VFW members. Veterans Village Florence is located on National Cemetery Road in Florence and opened its doors to qualified disabled Veterans in 2021. Presently, it houses 104 Veteran residents and throughout South Carolina there are a total of five facilities in the state.
