Dillon – William Samuel Stubbs, 72, passed away at McLeod Hospital in Dillon, Friday, August 18, 2023. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the Latta Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Pearce officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon is assisting the family.
Bill was born in Dillon, SC August 2, 1951, the son of the late John Billy Stubbs and Marie Stubbs Robbins. He graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College and Francis Marion University. He was a salesman for Bethea Distributing Co., Life of Georgia, Harvin Petroleum, and Dilmar Oil Company. Bill was a member of Latta Baptist Church. He loved his God, his church family, and personal family. He was especially proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved talking with people. He was an avid Gamecock fan.
Mr. Stubbs is survived by his wife of fifty years, Cheryl Cottingham Stubbs; children, James W. Stubbs (Rachel) of Darlington, SC, Denise Tiller (Kevin) of Lamar, SC, John Stubbs (Amy) of Easley, SC, Kimberly Carter (Dell) of Johnsonville, SC, Dorothy DeWitt (William) of Hartsville, SC, Christopher Stubbs (Kim) of Arkansas, Karen Owens (Shaun) of Johnsonville, SC, Derrick Stubbs (Joyce) of Georgia, Alexandria Lewis (Jason) of Florence, SC, seventeen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Gwendolyn Dotson of Dillon, SC, and Leslie Owens (Kevin) of Chapin, SC; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Elton Robbins.
