William Anderson “Bookie” Arrington, Sr., 87, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at McLeod Medical Center in Dillon.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2023 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with burial in Grantham Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Born in Oxford, NC, August 6, 1935, he was the son of the late Crawford Garland Arrington and Josephine Wheeler Arrington. He was raised in Rowland, NC where he was a graduate of Rowland High School. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as a former Deacon. He retired in 2011 from Lake View Police Department where he served as the Chief of Police for many years. Mr. Arrington was an avid bird hunter from an early age, a hobby he loved dearly. He loved gardening, was an expert tomato grower, and loved seeing things grow. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time outdoors and watching classic westerns.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Guynelle Grantham Arrington of Dillon; children, Cindy Arrington of Dillon, William Arrington, Ernie Arrington, both of North Myrtle Beach; and Stephen Arrington (Emily) of Dillon; grandchildren, Ashleigh Owens (Justin), Summer Arrington, Kyle Arrington, and Zackary Arrington; 5 great-grandchildren; special cousin, Jimmy Arrington (Dianne); many nieces and nephews he dearly loved.
Mr. Arrington was preceded in death by his sisters, Harriet Shooter, Wilhelmina Lee, Carol Lewis, Sally Shooter, Rebecca “Polly” Lee, and Mildred “Peggy” A. Carmichael; and his brothers, Edward Dudley Arrington, Garland Arrington, and Herbert Arrington.
