The Sergeant Major (Ret) Ulysses W. Mayes awards annually a Scholarship Award of $1000 to a Dillon High School graduate who pursues post education at a technical college or university. Mr. Mayes is a Dillon High School graduate who is also a thirty-year veteran of the United States Army. He is the organizer of the Little Rock Family and Friends’ Day.
Currently, Mr Mayes is a resident of Savannah, Georgia where he serves as a motivational speaker.

Joyce Velasquez-Acosta is the recipient of the 2023-2024 Scholarship Award. While attending Dillon High School, she was a member of the GT Chorus and A-Tech.
She participated in community tree lighting ceremonies and Prostart competitions. She has a Servsafe certification.
“As a Hispanic student coming from a different background, I would like to thank God for my accomplishments and I am very grateful to be the recipient of this scholarship. I have big dreams of being a pastry chef, and this is a great help financially and I’m hoping to succeed in my future in becoming a pastry chef,” Joyce said.
Joyce plans to attend Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
