The Dillon Lady Wildcats advanced in the 3 A varsity softball playoffs with a 3-1 win over Marlboro County on Friday, May 12, in Bennettsville.
Marlboro County led 1-0 after scoring a run in the bottom of the third inning until Dillon responded in the top of the fourth inning when Makayla Huggins singled and a run scored. The game remained tied at 1 until the top of the sixth inning when Logan Grice connected for a double that scored a run to give Dillon a 2-1 lead. Paige Sherman picked up the win for Dillon. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 4 hits, 1 earned run, struck out 11, and walked no one. M. Kubas took the loss for Marlboro County. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 4 hits, 3 runs of which 2 were earned, struck out 9, and walked 2.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats did not commit an error while Cierra Grice made the most plays with 11.
Dillon’s Makayla Huggins had 2 hits and a rbi in 3 at-bats. Logan Grice had a double, a rbi, had a stolen base, and scored 2 runs in 3 at-bats. Makeena Meekins had a hit, a walk, had a stolen base, and scored a run in 3 plate appearances. Erika Williamson garnered a walk in 3 plate appearances. Mariah Campbell was hit by a pitch.
Marlboro County’s I. Allen had a hit and a rbi in 3 at-bats. A. Bridges had a hit and scored a run in 2 at-bats. A. Quick and R. Williams each had a hit in 3 at-bats.
