The Aynor Lady Blue Jackets edged the Dillon Lady Wildcats 6-5 in varsity softball action played in Aynor on Monday, May 15.
The Lady Wildcats were in control until the bottom of the seventh inning when Brown connected for a stand-up double, and Hess singled. Ellis homered on the first pitch and scored 3 runs to take the win.
Aynor got onto the scoreboard in the first inning when Rabon singled.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats tied the game at 3 in the top of the fifth inning. Makayla Huggins singled and a run scored. Shakinah Murphy homered in this inning.
Dillon added 2 runs to the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning.
Johnson started on the mound for the Aynor Lady Blue Jackets. She pitched 4 innings and allowed 5 hits, an earned run, walked 2, and struck out 3. Hess came in relief and pitched 3 innings to get the win. She allowed 5 hits, 4 runs of which 2 were earned, struck out 3, and walked 2. Paige Sherman was tagged for the loss. She pitched 6 innings and allowed 9 hits 6 runs of which 4 were earned, struck out 4, and walked 1.
Dillon committed 2 errors in the game while Aynor committed only 1 error.
Dillon managed 10 hits in the game with Makayla Huggins connecting for 3 hits and a walk in 4 plate appearances. Cierra Grice had 3 hits and scored 2 runs in her 4 at-bats. Logan Grice had 2 hits, a walk, and scored a run in her 4 plate appearances. Shakinah Murphy had a home run, a single, a rbi, and scored a run in her 3 at-bats. Makeena Meekins had 3 walks and scored a run in 4 plate appearances.
Aynor’s Ellis had 2 hits, 3 rbi, and scored 2 runs in her 4 at-bats. Goff had 2 hits and scored a run in 3 at-bats. Rabon had a hit, a rbi, and scored a run in 3 at-bats.
