The 2022 Dillon County Veterans Day Ceremony was held on Friday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Dillon County Courthouse Courtroom.
VOYO Commander Lloyd Brown welcomed everyone to the ceremony and also had announcements.
The posting of the colors was by the Dillon High School JROTC while the invocation was by Rev. Rob Pierce of Latta Baptist Church. Barbara Causey sang the National Anthem, and Ronnie Stone led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Retired Major General James E. Lockemy presented the Jerry Huggins plague to Jerry’s wife, Rachel, and his son, Michael.
The Dillon High School JROTC presented Thomas “Pal” Dudley with the Dillon County senior Veteran Affairs Award. Also, James “Joe” McPherson was recognized as the oldest living veteran now residing in Dillon County. He is 102.5 years of age.
Jim Chavis presented the VFW Scholarship, the George F. Spradley Annual $1,000 Scholarship, to Elizabeth Brown of Latta High School who had written a tribute to her grandfather, O. C. “Corky” Lane of Latta, S. C.
John Harlow introduced the guest speaker, former Marine Rodney Berry. Berry not only had a good speech, but he also recognized every veteran who was present.
Charlie Vance and Levern Hayes conducted the Laying of the Wreath in honor of the U. S. Armed Forces.
The Veteran of the Year for 2021, Joe Manning, presented the Veteran of the Year for 2022, Pamela Moore.
Jim Chavis presented the VFW Awards for the First Responders: Firefighter of the Year, Jason Jackson; Paramedic of the Year, Michael Sapp; and the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, Monroe Herring.
The Dillon High School JROTC retired the colors.
The Benediction and the blessing of the food was by Rev. Rob Pierce of Latta Baptist Church.
