Benny Davidson, Sr., 96, peacefully passed away October 24, 2022, in Columbia, SC.
He was born in New Orleans, LA but grew up in Dillon, SC where he attended grammar and high school. Benny retired from the Navy and resided in Norfolk, VA for many years before moving to Columbia to be near his son.

Benny joined the US Navy in June of 1942 at the age of 17 and served three years with Honorable Discharge. Benny then joined the Dillon, SC National Guard and served 3 years from 1947 to 1950. Benny re-enlisted in the US Navy in 1952. During this time, he served 3 tours in Vietnam and was awarded The Bronze Star for his service. During his years in the Navy he also served during WWII and the Korean Wars. Benny retired in 1972 as Chief Petty Officer with a total of 26 1/2 years of service.
Surviving is his son, Benny “Butch” Davidson, Jr. (Brenda) of Blythewood, SC; stepdaughter, Patricia Worrell (David) and step grandsons, Adam and Benjamin Worrell of Norfolk, VA.; also close and loving nieces, Mabeth McCutchen (Jim) of Greenville, SC and Lydia Carr (Howard) of Dillon; along with numerous great nieces and nephews that he cared for deeply.
Benny is preceded by his mother, MaBeth Evington of Lake View, SC; wife, Filomena Davidson of Norfolk, VA; sister, Sara Williams of Dillon, SC; and close niece, Sylvia Sommer of Mt. Pleasant, SC. While he could, Benny was a devoted member of North Trenholm Baptist Church. He also loved NASCAR, gardening, and his country.
Graveside services with full military honors wereMonday, October 31, 2022, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC, at 12:00 p.m. Rev. David Knapp of North Trenholm Baptist Church officiated.
