NICHOLS, SC – The second annual “DIRTcar South of the Border Showdown” is scheduled for Wednesday to Saturday, February 2-5, 2022 at Lake View Motor Speedway featuring DIRTcar Sportsman Modified. Over $27,000 will payout over three nights of Feature action.
Sportsman Modifieds are the feisty little brothers to the Big Block Modifieds that compete in the Super DIRTcar Series. The cars are almost identical except Sportsman Modifieds are powered by the popular Chevy Performance 602 Crate Engine. Southern race fans may have caught these Northeast-based, center steer race cars during the Drydene World Short Track Championship at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
In 2022, Lake View will host an additional night of Feature racing bringing the total to three Features plus one night of practice. Each night pays more to win. Night one is $1,000, nights two is $2,000, and night three is $3,000.
Four days of fun in South Carolina have DIRTcar Northeast’s Dean Reynolds excited about highlighting the division “South of the Border.”
“When Scott Tripp reached out to me to run a DIRTcar Sportsman Modified show last year, it was a surprise,” Reynolds said.
“But with him and his partner, Tim Clemons, both from New York, they knew what they wanted to do. We all immediately went to work and it was just a great event. With 40 cars going we knew the competitors wanted it as well. We are back and with an extra day, it’s just going to be that much more special.”
Last year, Nick Guererri and Andrew Buff split the inaugural Sportsman Modified races at Lake View. A field of 40 made the tow south last January.
