Wright H.E.A.R.T.S. (Helping Encourage Adrian’s Recovery Through Sponsorship) Board Members called and the cyclists came. The Inaugural WrightStrong Cycling Fundraiser happened on December 11, 2021 at the water fountain located on S. Railroad Avenue in Dillon, SC.
The purpose of the event was to raise funds to assist Adrian Wright, Dillon High School band director, with medical expenses.
The day’s activities began with check in at 7:30 a.m. and safety checks at 7:45 a.m. lead by Dr. Nicholas Wallace. Cedric Page, Wright H.E.A.R.T.S. Board Chair, opened the ceremony by welcoming the cyclists and volunteers. Minister Jonathan Jenkins blessed the event followed by remarks from Kadra and Adrian Wright who thanked everyone for participating in the ride and his or her support over the last 11 months during his recovery.
The cyclists and volunteers were from South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Alabama. Cyclists represented the following groups: BRFs, Cannonball’s, Florence Cyclist, Gordon Cycling Group, Greenville Spinners Bicycle Club, Mayhem Cycling, Peachtree Riders, Pedal Pack, Road Ryders, Men of Valor, Magic City Rollers NICA Team, Cape Fear Cyclist, Village Idiots, Gents & Ladies, T&T, and Sharp Iron Riders. Nationally ranked cyclists Tammy Lionheart, Tony Herring, and Tyrone Mitchell also participated in the ride.
Fifty cyclists divided into three groups completed different routes: Novice Ride – 5 miles, Intermediate Ride – 30 miles and Pro Ride – 60 miles. The City of Dillon Police Department, Dillon County Sheriff Department, and Marion County Sheriff Department escorted the riders. Phil’s Bike World of Florence provided repair support items for the cyclist. Jerome Darryl McQueen (Acastemics) and Cedric G. Page provided refreshments. The Wright H.E.A.R.T.S.
