The Dillon Lady Wildcats defeated the visiting Hartsville Lady Red Foxes 3-1 in varsity softball action played in Dillon on Monday, April 12.
Dillon’s Paige Sherman pitched a 1-hit shut-out going the distance. She struck out 9 and walked 3.
Alyssa Poston was charged with the loss. She pitched 6 innings and allowed 5 hits, walked 4, struck out 11, and allowed 3 runs.
In the first inning, both teams were retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
In the top of the second inning, the Lady Red Foxes were once again retired 1-2-3.
In the bottom of the second inning, Dillon’s Qy Wilson arrived safely at first with a bunt. She quickly stole second base and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Logan Grice. Lexie Rogers hit a long 1 to left for a stand-up double and a rbi to give Dillon a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning, Hartsville was unable to get the offense going and returned to defense after being retired 1-2-3.
The Lady Wildcats were also retired 1-2-3 by the Hartsville pitcher in the bottom of the third inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, Hartsville’s Jaysha McCullough arrived at first on an error. Alyssa Poston garnered a walk to place runners on first and second with no outs. Kindan Dawson had a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third with only 1 out. Hartsville had a threat going. Olivia Martin flied out to right for out 2. Jaysha McCullough was thrown out at home attempting to score. Dillon had dodged a bullet.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Qy Wilson garnered a walk and once again quickly stole second base. Logan Grice also garnered a walk. Both Wilson and Grice stole a base to move safely to second and third. Ny Wilson garnered a walk to load the bases. Lexie Rogers hit one to center to pick up a double and 2 rbi.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Dillon’s Paige Sherman led off with a double on a hit to center followed by a bunt by Abby Bristow to place runners on the corners with no outs. However, Hartsville stopped the Dillon scoring threat.
Dillon committed 2 errors in the game while Hartsville did not commit an error.
