Rev. Bonnie Peake, born October 6, 1930, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 7, 2021. A graveside service will be Tuesday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Kemper Baptist Church Cemetery, Lake View, SC.
Rev. Peake was the son of the late William Milton Peake and Mae Belle Peake of Lugoff SC. He was married to Frances Watts Peake who preceded him in death. His three daughters, Cindy Bethea of the home, Evelyn (Johnny) Carmichael of Lake View and Robin (Mitch) Scott of Fork will cherish his memory along with his grandchildren, Matt (Amy) Cook of Lake View, Mitchell (Fran) Scott of Dunn, NC, Andrew (Sarah) Scott of Montmorenci, SC and Jeff Bethea of Scranton. Rev. Peake is also survived by and dearly loved his great grandchildren, Nicholas and Sawyer Cook, Kaylee Spivey, and Wyatt and Samuel Scott.
Rev. Peake proudly served his country in the US Navy as an E3 Seaman from 1948-1950 and was stationed in Monterey, California. Upon his return home, he worked on the family farm. He served his community of the Camden Police Force for 10 years from 1955-1965.
Answering the call to the ministry, Rev. Peake became the youth pastor at his home church, Pine Grove Baptist Church. Listening to the call of full time ministry, he became pastor of Red Hill Baptist Church from 1964-1966. Cassatt Baptist Church was his next pastorate home from 1966-1973. Rev. Peake then moved to the Town of Lake View and became pastor of Kemper Baptist Church in 1973. He remained there until he retired in 1992. Still seeking God’s will, he took the position of Interim Pastor for Woodlawn Baptist Church from 1992-1998 and then Interim Pastor for North Mullins Church from 1998-2000.
Rev. Peake enjoyed a quiet life at home watching westerns, keeping up with the world news and occasionally venturing to Lake View for a haircut and visit to the local stores or bank. He was a man of great faith and assurance of where he would be spending eternity. His prayer was that everyone would come to know Christ as their Savior. His life was dedicated and devoted to spreading the Word of God and to the mission of bringing others closer to Christ.
Rev. Peake was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde (Mattie), Sanford , Langford (Connie), Morticai, Olin (Minnie) and Dempsy; and sisters, Belva Peake, Elizabeth (Jasper) Kelly, Juanita (Shorty) Dowey and Novice (Tag) Geoff.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Gideon’s International.
