The Dillon Wildcats varsity boys basketball team defeated the Lake View Wild Gators 51-41 on Thursday, January 14, in Dillon.
The Wildcats held a 14-10 lead after the first period of play. The Wild Gators fought back and outscored the Wildcats 13-5 in the second period of play to claim a 4-point lead at halftime.
The third period of play was close as Dillon outscored Lake View by 6 points, 14-8, and regained the lead by 2 points. The Wildcats managed to outscore the Wild Gators in the final period by 10 points to claim the win.
Dillon’s D. Bethea led all scorers with 19 points on eight 2-point baskets and 3 free throws while C. Brayboy added 16 points on four 2-point baskets, two 3-point baskets, and a free throw. C. Wright connected for two 3-point baskets and two 2-point baskets for 10 points. B. McKinnon, Z. Bethea, and CJ Bethea each sank a basket for 2 points.
DJ Bethea led the Wild Gators with 14 points on six 2-point baskets and 2 free throws. Marquise Johnson netted 8 points on four 2-point baskets while Michael McInnis connected for a 3-point basket and a 2-point basket for 5 points. Raekwon McNeil and Shaheed Dawkins each sank two 2-point baskets to add 4 points each to the score. Da’Correus Ford connected for a long 3-point basket, and Tyqual McCants connected for a 2-point basket and added a free throw for 3 points.
Lake View committed 6 fouls in the first half and 8 fouls in the second half while Dillon was guilty of 3 fouls in the first half and 6 fouls in the second half.
