Nan Carmichael is the new principal for Latta High School for the 2020-2021 school year.

Mrs. Carmichael graduated from Latta High School in 1981. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Columbia College in 1985. She earned her Master’s Degree and certification in Secondary Guidance from Francis Marion College in 1988. She earned a second Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Winthrop University in 2013.
Mrs. Carmichael started her teaching career in 1985 as a fifth grade teacher at Gordon Elementary School in Dillon. During the 1986-87 school year, Mrs. Carmichael was hired as the Gifted and Talented Teacher for the Lake View Schools. She was then hired in January of 1988 to become the Guidance Counselor at Lake View High School. She returned to her Alma Mater for the 1995-96 school year to become the Guidance Counselor at Latta High School. She has remained in this position for twenty-five years.
Mrs. Carmichael stated that she is thrilled to be the new principal at Latta High School. “I love my school and the Latta Community. I am excited to continue working with our students, parents, teachers, and community members in my new role as principal. Our faculty is absolutely wonderful, and I am blessed to be able to work with such an outstanding and dedicated group of educators. I want to continue the tradition of excellence that we have at Latta High School in all areas of the curriculum. I am proud that we are able to offer the International Baccalaureate Programme to our students to help them prepare for living and working in a global society. Our number one priority is helping all of our students achieve success and having them leave Latta High School with the skills necessary to be ready for college and careers.”
Mrs. Carmichael and her husband John have one son, Charles. Mrs. Carmichael’s husband and son are also graduates of Latta High School.
