A dinner was held on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at the American Legion Hut to honor the girls who attended Girls State at Presbyterian College last June, their parents and their high school counselors were also invited to the dinner. Afterwards, the girls were given their Certificates of Participation and were given the opportunity to tell about their experiences while attending Girls State.
This week-long program helps our girls to learn about how our government works as they compete for various levels of local, county, and state government offices.
They learn to interact with girls from all over our state and build friendships that sometimes last a lifetime.
The girls who attended 2019 Girls State are as follows: from Dillon High School, Lindsay Hyatt and Emily Locklear; form Dillon Christian School, Sarah Tompkins and Nicole Watts; from Latta High School, Kearson bean and Miracle Burgess; and from lake View High School, Alex Elliot and Jadyn Watson.
American Legion Auxiliary is a non-profit organization. We depend on our local banks, doctors, lawyers, businessmen, businesswomen, grocery stores, school boards, and the public (especially when we have raffles and poppy donations) to help us fund several of our programs not just Girls State. However, at this time, we would like to thank everyone who supported Girls State. Without your support these girls would miss a great opportunity to learn about our government, how it works, and how they can make a difference in their future.
