Mr. Robert “Shot” Hayes was born in Wayne County, NC on 3-3-1936. He was the son of the late Woodrow and Lena Mae Hayes. Mr. Hayes was predeceased by a son, Robert Lawrence Hayes; two daughters, Angela D. Carter and Sherri R. Perritt (Stan); as well as several sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred C. Hayes; three daughters, Tracy H. Tarte, Tammy J. Rogers (Tim) and Natasha Matthews (Joe); honorary daughter, Edna J. Watts; three sisters, Patsy Dew (John), Jo Ann Davis, Linda Mae Weeks; and a brother, Charles “Boogie” Sasser.
He had eleven grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; and honorary granddaughter, Nikki Page.
He served in the US Navy for 8 years and was retired form E & L Construction Company. He was also very involved with the church, serving in many positions-Sunday School Teacher, Choir Leader, as well as played guitar and sang.
He is also leaving behind a community that knew him as “Papa” and loved him very much, as much as he loved them, and a church family of many that loved him and a church family that he loved.
A funeral service will be Thursday, March 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Lake View Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial to follow at Lake View Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday, March 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Cooke Funeral Home of Lake View.
