The Dillon Lady Wildcats handed the Lake View Lady Wild Gators a 60-49 loss in Dillon on Friday, January 10, in varsity basketball action played in Dillon.
The Lady Wildcats controlled the tip-off and scored the first point of the game on a Shantazia Gordon free throw. However, the Lady Wildcats found themselves in a battle throughout the first half but managed to pull away in the third quarter.
Dillon and Lake View exchanged baskets during the first period of play. After the first quarter, Lake View enjoyed 10-8 lead. However, in the second quarter Dillon edged Lake View in scoring and found themselves up by a slim 1-point lead, 20-19, at halftime.
In the first half, Dillon committed 8 fouls while Lake View was guilty of 10 fouls.
In the first few minutes of the third period of play, the scoring was tight Dillon got the best of the scoring although both teams were suffering missed shots, especially lay-ups. Dillon was up by 11 points at one time in the third period of play. By the end of the third quarter, Dillon lead by 9 points, 39-30.
Dillon managed to go up by 19 points after the opening of the fourth quarter. By the end of the game Dillon was up by 11 points.
In the second half of play Dillon committed 10 fouls while Lake View committed 6 fouls.
Dillon’s Chyna Pouncey scored a team-high 16 points of which she connected on eight 2-point baskets. Jykya Bell contributed 13 points on six 2-point baskets and a free throw. Shantazia Gordon connected for 11 points on three 2-point shots and 5 free throws of 9 attempts. Jayla Goodwin sank two 2-point baskets and 4 free throws. Alyse Hines had 6 points on 3 baskets. Adrianna Ervin connected for two 2-point baskets for 4 points. Deanna Lane garnered a 2-point shot.
Lake View’s Sa’Nyah Williams led Lake View with 16 points with five 2-point baskets and two 3-point baskets. Jaleya Ford had 9 points including a 3-point basket, two 2-point baskets, and 2 free throws. Ja’Niyah Waters sank 3 of 4 free throws and two 2-point baskets for 7 points. Tianna Hamilton connected for 66 percent of her free throws, 4 of 6, and a 2-point basket for 6 points. Gwendasia Page also connected for 6 points on one-3-point shot and 3 free throws. Zan’Dasia McNeil made two 2-point baskets and a free throw for a total of 5 points.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats will host Aynor today (Tuesday, January 14) at 6:30 p.m.
Lake View will host Dillon on Wednesday, January 15, at 6:00 p.m.
