Come hear the Latta Community Singers as they musically travel from Shenandoah to Hollywood. Performances will be held Friday, May 17 at 6:30 at the Ellis Performing Arts Center and Sunday, May 19 at 4:00 at the Latta United Methodist Church and are free to the community.
The folk song portion of the concert will include familiar folk songs such as O Shenandoah, Danny Boy and Polly Wolly Doodle. Hooray for Hollywood starts off the second portion of the concert which will include movie music old and new. Hits like The Shadow of Your Smile, The Glory of Love, You’ve Got a Friend in Me and The New Girl in Town along with other familiar tunes will have you smiling and tapping your toe.
In December, Latta Community Singers said goodbye to their founding director, Cindy Legette, who retired after 14 wonderful years.
The new director, Polly Kopituk, is new to Latta but comes with years of choral experience both as a singer and conductor. Susan Johnson continues as our talented accompanist. The Community Singers are made up of regular people from all walks of life who love to sing.
Members come from nearby towns such as Latta, Mullins and Florence.
The choir rehearses every Monday evening from 6:30-8:30 where you will often hear great singing, laughter, and friendships being made. Join us for the concerts May 17 and 19 and if you find yourself singing along please consider joining the choir when we start again in September.
For further information email Polly Kopituk at LattaCommunitySingers@gmail.com.
