It is hard to believe that we have now arrived at the 15th year of The Dillon County Car Show! My how quickly time has sped by!
I recall watching the beautiful cars arrive in 2005 as my excitement and anxiety both accelerated at the green flag of this new tradition. Thanks to Dr. Granville Vance, that inaugural year we had an entire fleet of 1970 Pontiac Superbirds from all over the country to fly in and help launch our event. We also made a new friend in Bill Smith of Asheboro, NC who came accompanied by his stunning yellow and white 1955 Chevrolet, that won our Best of Show award. The day began under beautiful sunshine and ended under the warm city lights. Absolutely incredible.
Each year our show continues to grow! Last year we had 45 first time participants registered from over 35 different communities right here in the Carolinas! We had cars ranging from a 1928 Ford Sedan to a 2018 Ford F150 King Ranch Truck. You will remember the “Best of Show” last year was a 1969 Chevrolet Truck entered by Eddie Phillips. Even now as I type this article and remember the fun we had, I find myself wiping the palms of my hands together, as exhilaration races over me. This is going to be another great year and we want you to be a part of it.
Not only is this event a lot of fun, but each year we take a portion of its proceeds and contribute it back into the community charities ministry through Dillon Congregational. These proceeds this year will be donated to the American Red Cross.
Our community could not have such a great event without the support of the folks of Dillon Congregational, the Dillon County Chamber of Commerce, and certainly our wonderful Sponsors. I also want to give a personal thanks to Anthony Allen whom has been my right hand since 2015. These are the folks that are directly responsible and to whom are in need of being credited. Should you get a chance on event day, be sure and give them a nod or a handshake to thank them for what they do.
Our community is always having other great events, but for me, this is the best one-day attraction of the year. Come and experience the excitement!
