The Latta Lady Vikings edged the East Clarendon Lady Wolverines 6-5 winning the game in the bottom of the seventh inning in Latta on Friday, March 29.
East Clarendon was leading 5-4 after the top of the seventh inning. Latta managed to get a run across home plate to knot the game at 5. Arica Gandy singled that scored the winning run.
East Clarendon sent 3 runs across the plate in the top of the third inning to take the lead. Latta answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 2. Latta knotted the score at 3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. East Clarendon placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning to take a 2-run lead. Latta answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 1 run. The game was decided in the bottom of the seventh inning when Latta sent 2 runs across home plate to seal the win.
Latta’s Arica Gandy connected for a triple, a single, a rbi, and scored a run in her 3 at-bats. Jayla Jackson had a single, 2 rbi, and scored a run in her 4 at-bats. Rayne Nolan had 2 singles and a rbi in her 3 at-bats. Lauren Webster had a double and a rbi in her 4 at-bats. Jena Stutler had 2 doubles and scored 2 runs in her 4 at-bats. Kaleigh Caulder had 2 singles and scored 2 runs in her 4 at-bats. Hannah Medlin had a single in her 2 at-bats. Riana Green singled in her 4 at-bats.
East Clarendon’s Hannah Hickman singled, garnered a walk, picked up 2 rbi, and scored a run in her 4 plate appearances. Brittany Anderson hit a double and a single in her 4 at-bats. Elly Floyd had a double, a walk, and scored 2 runs in her 4 plate appearances. Hope Azurdia had a double in her 4 at-bats. Amanda Floyd had a single in her 3 at-bats. Kinsley Driggers garnered 2 walks and scored a run in her 4 plate appearances. Ansleigh Brown garnered a walk and scored a run in her 3 plate appearances.
Latta’s Arica Gandy picked up the win . She pitched 2 innings and allowed 1 hit, 2 walks, struck out no one, and allowed a run that was not earned. Jayla Jackson started the game for the Vikings. She pitched 5 innings and allowed 5 hits, walked 4, struck out 5, and allowed 4 runs of which 2 were earned.
Maddie Newsome was charged with the loss. She pitched 6.2 innings and allowed 12 hits, walked no one, struck out 1, and allowed 6 runs of which 4 were earned.
Latta will host Andrews today (Tuesday, April 2) at 6:00 p.m.
