After many years of hard work and many sacrifices, Michael Hayes fulfilled his dream and signed his letter of intent to play football at Georgia State University on Wednesday, February 6, at West Florence High School.
He was joined for this occasion by his parents, Michael and Michelle; and his sister, Michaela.
The hard work and sacrifices paid off for Hayes.
Not only is Hayes continuing his pursuit of football but he also is getting an education.
Hayes received offers from other schools but decided to sign with Georgia State University as it is the best fit for him. Hayes loves the environment and all of the coaches there.
While at West Florence, Hayes received numerous awards such as the Shrine Bowl selection, the SCFCA Palmetto Champions All-Star Specialist of the Year, SC AAAAA Specialist of the Year, All-Region 6-AAAAA, All-State, All-Pee Dee, WPDE News 15 All Zone Team, and the WBTW News 13 All Blitz Team.
He compiled some impressive stats such as 64 of 65 PATs, 6 of 9 field goals (long of 42), 70 of 87 touchbacks, averaged 36 yards on punting with a long of 50, scored 82 season points, and scored 170 career points (4 years).
Hayes’ parents and sister are very excited for his having an opportunity to continue his football career. “It’s been great watching him play the game he loves, and with every game he improved. We expect exciting events in his future while playing football and receiving his education,” exclaimed his parents.
Michael and Michelle formerly lived in Dillon and were in the education field.
Michael is the nephew of Dean and Susan Shuttleworth of Dillon and Phil Hayes of Florence.
