Services for Mattie Lee Turner Garrett was held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment with military honors was held in Evergreen Perpetual Care Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation was held 3:00-4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Garrett, 93, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 14, 2018. She was the widow James Carey Garrett after 66 years of marriage.
Born in Marion County, SC, May 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Elbert Turner and Mattie Christmas Turner. She was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at the Dillon Church of God and was retired from Dixiana Mill. She was a U.S. Army Veteran.
Survivors include her daughters, Jane (Reid) Hamilton, Brenda Faye (Wayne) Johnson, and Debra (Glenn) Moody, all of Dillon; grandchildren, Shannon (John Mark) Calhoun, Rene’ (Steve) Johnson, Chris (Kimberly) Johnson, Jay Johnson, Jamie (Michelle) Hamilton, Matt (Sherry) Johnson, Kevin Moody, special friend, Kristen, and Ryan (Katharine) Moody; great-grandchildren, Stephen (Lauren) Johnson, Carrie (Seth) Monroe, Lexie (Luke) Pittman, Connor Hamilton, Collin Hamilton, and Trent Johnson, Beverly, Brianna, Hannah, Matthew, Jon Atlas, Sarah Beth, and Luke Johnson, and Emerson and Landon Moody; brother, Elbert Turner of California; sister-in-law, Thelma Self; many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
Memorials may be made to Walt Pittman Scholarship at Dillon Christian School in memory of her great-great-grandchild.
