The City of Dillon held a Christmas Tree Lighting on Tuesday, November 27th.
Dan E. Lockemy was the emcee for the event. Rev. Matt Adams of First Presbyterian Church in Dillon gave the prayer.
Mayor Todd Davis welcomed the crowd and gave some history of the event. He noted that the crowd was much larger than last year. He said if New York City can have a tree lighting so can Dillon, South Carolina. He reminded everyone about the Christmas parade and the upcoming production of Scrooge at the Dillon County Theatre. There was a countdown, and the mayor pressed the button to light the tree.
The Dillon High School Gifted and Talented Chorus sang some Christmas songs which the crowd enjoyed.
Hot cocoa and goodies were served. In addition to the lighting of the tree, which is located in the downtown fountain plaza, the highlight of the night was the arrival of Santa and his elf, Jingles, on the City of Dillon Fire Truck driven by Donnie Grimsley.
