Northeastern Technical College (NETC) has received an additional $200,000 in grant funding from the SC Promise Scholarship program to help students offset education costs not covered by federal financial aid and other grant/scholarship programs. This increases total SC Promise funding for NETC to $500,000 for the year.
“SC Promise is a game changer for students living in our communities,” said NETC President Dr. Kyle Wagner. “It’s helping to make the dream of higher education a reality to those who need it the most.”
Wagner added SC Promise has no limitations set on income, and is especially beneficial to students who don’t qualify for federal financial aid or other funding.
$2,000 scholarships are available to students attending NETC who graduated or received a GED from any Chesterfield County, Marlboro County, or Dillon County school. Recipients can receive up to a $2,000 scholarship per academic year, to be applied after all other grant and scholarship funding is used. Funds may be used to cover tuition, mandatory fees, and program fees. The scholarship also includes a $300 allowance for books.
To qualify, students must:
-Have earned a high school diploma or GED after 2013 while residing in Chesterfield, Marlboro, or Dillon County.
-Be enrolled or enrolling in a certificate, diploma or degree program at NETC or another of the SC Technical College System’s 16 schools
-Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and SC Promise Scholarship application
-Enroll in at least six credit hours in the fall 2018 and/or spring 2019 semesters
-Maintain a 2.0 GPA
-Participate in mentoring activities at the college
Graduates of all public, private, online and home schools who meet the qualifications are eligible for the SC Promise Scholarship.
