HIGH POINT – Frederick “Buster” Douglas Wheeler, Jr., 75, died Monday, November 5, 2018, at the Hospice home of High Point.

He was born July 5, 1943, in Dillon, South Carolina and was the son of the late Frederick Douglas Wheeler, Sr. and Amanda Page Wheeler Dixon. He was a graduate of Gordon High School in Dillon and attended Voorhees College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a military police and was a retired police officer with the Philadelphia Police Department. While in Philadelphia, he attended the Church Triumphant and Outreach Ministries.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Johnathan Douglas Wheeler, on September 24, 2011; a sister, Vivian Young; a brother, Norman Wheeler; and a special cousin, Willie Williams.

Fred is survived by his wife, Martha S. Wheeler, whom he married on September 14, 1968; three sisters, Dolly Mace and Louvenia Wheeler Godbolt (David), both of High Point, and Barbara Jean Moseley (Daniel) of Cocoa Beach, Florida; a brother, James Wheeler (Barbara) of Winter Haven, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Doretha Rogers of Philadelphia and Gloria Alford of Columbia, SC; four brothers-in-law, John Alford (Pamela) of Columbia, SC, Anthony Alford (Lynette) of Dillon, SC, Robert Alford, Jr. (Cindy) and William Alford, both of Philadelphia; three special cousins who were like brothers, Clarence Williams of Philadelphia, Roscoe Williams of Wilmington, and Leroy Williams of Camden, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service celebrating Fred’s life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 10, 2018, in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, November 12, 2018, at the National Cemetery in Salisbury.
